大学院の授業が終わって帰り道です〜。
今日はもう少し、Marriage & Family Therapist (MFT)についてご紹介しましょう。
MFTはアメリカの公的な資格ですが、その要件や心療できる範囲は州によって異なります。私は勤務先の本社がサンフランシスコということもあり、カリフォルニア州の資格制度にフォーカスしてリサーチしています。
聞くところによると、全米の中でもカリフォルニア州とニューヨーク州の資格制度が厳しいとのこと。
MFTになるためには、関連する大学院の修士学位を取得した上で、修了後はインターンとしてトレーニングを積まなくてはなりません。トレーニングは在学中の時間数も合わせて、合計なんと3000時間以上！
そしてMFTの最大の特徴はカップル、親子、こどものカウンセリング経験を500時間以上積まないと資格が取得できないところにあります。
マリッジ&ファミリーと付くので、夫婦や家族関係ばかり対応していると思われるかもしれませんが、個人の診断もしますし、いわゆるセラピスト同様、鬱、不安症、パニック障害、トラウマ、摂食障害など様々な心理療法が行える守備範囲の広い専門家なのです。その中でもRelationship（関係性）の対応を行う訓練をしっかり受けた、いわば人間関係のプロなんです。

Today, I would like to talk a little more about Marriage & Family Therapist (MFT).
MFT is a licensed psychotherapist in the United States, however, its qualification and scope of practice vary depending on the state. I work for a company holding its Headquarters in San Francisco, so I am focusing on California State to proceed my research.
As far as I hear, the qualification of attaining the license is more strict in New York State and California State than other states in the US. To attain MFT license you need to complete a relevant master degree and after graduating a graduate school, you have to be trained as an intern and the required hours for training are more than 3,000 hours!
What makes MFT unique is that the qualifilication that requires to complete more than 500 hours on couple, family, child counseling.
As it is named "Marriage & Family," you might think that this therapist is focusing on couples and family relationships, however, they provide counselling to individuals, and conduct psychotherapies on depression, anxiety, panic disorder, trauma, eating disorder, etc. like other therapists do. They are genuine professionals who treat wide range of mental illness and psychological distress.
In addition to that, they are the professionals of relationships who went through tremendous amount of training on dealing with interpersonal issues.
